Actor Maithriya Given Two-year Jail for Slapping Cop, Gets Bail
Bengaluru: The fifth ACMM court on Friday slapped a two-year jail-term on actor Maithriya Gowda, for slapping a traffic policeman on duty in 2011.
Maithriya was in the news some time ago when she had accused Karthik, Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s son, of ditching her with promise to marry.
Her sister Supriya Gowda and relatives Roopa and Rekha have been given a year’s sentence each. Maithriya has also been imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 and others Rs 2,000 each.
Since a higher appeal was admissible for sentences less than three years, the convicted immediately applied for bail which was also granted by the court.
After coming out of the court, both Maithriya and her advocate told newspersons that while they had high respect towards the court, there were also holes in the prosecution argument regarding ‘mahazar’ conducted after the incident and also non-availability of eyewitnesses. They said they would go in appeal against the order.
