Actor Prakash Raj joins protest against GST on handmade products
Bengaluru: Noted film actor Prakash Raj today joined the protest being staged by theatre personality Prasanna against the imposition of GST on handmade products.
Prasanna is on indefinite hunger strike for the last five days demanding total waiver of GST on handmade products, saying it would cause the collapse of the rural economy.
Raj, who spoke to a private news channel from the stage said “it is unfair to impose GST on the products prepared by a tribe, which lives in forest. He pays GST equal to a multinational company. You are not only economically burdening them but also disturbing the social fabric”, he said. “You are breaking them morally and rendering them jobless. This is by a government which said ‘Make in India’ and promised creating jobs,” said Raj expressing solidarity with Prasanna’s demand.
“When you see people are suffering because of GST, then it is time to change,” said Raj.
Raj has been vocal against Prime Minister Narendra Modi ever since the murder of noted journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was his family friend. He had flayed Modi for his silence on this issue.
i dnt know how a high gst on rich film producers will effect common man or poor man..people will stop watching movie means more income to his family…govt should increase entertainment tax from movie to liquor to cigar..it will definitely increase the life style and income of common man of india..govt can invest such tax in “make india ” project etc which may give some job to poor youth of india…even gauri lankesh is against rich capitalists ..she was supporter of poor indian ..
