Actress Apeksha and Mayor Kavitha Inaugurate 7th National-level Lagori Championship 2018

Mangaluru: The much awaited two-day 7th National-level Lagori Championship 2018, got a rousing start at the Karavali Utsav Grounds here on January 6.

The programme began with welcoming the guests and the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Kavitha Sanil by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Addressing the gathering Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “We were all playing Lagori during our childhood but the same sports Lagori is now played at the National level. The National-level Lagori Championship is organized in Mangaluru and I congratulate Deepak and his team for their efforts. It is sad that only Cricket is getting good support with people showing special interest to watch while other sports have been neglected. Lagori is a rural sport and we all should support it. I have supported the organizers within my capacity and I urge others to support them so that this Lagori tournament can be successful in Mangaluru.”

Mayor Kavitha further said, “In any sports, participation is very important. Loosing and winning is part of the game but all the players should play with a sportive spirit. If you lose do not get disheartened, if you lose today, tomorrow victory will be yours. I wish all the participants the very best and a pleasant stay in Mangaluru”.

Corporator Vasanti Achar speaking on the occasion said, “A team of friends organized the National-level Lagori tournament. For Cricket the government is lending good support but Lagori and other sports have been neglected. We are proud that the National-level Lagori tournament has been organized in Mangaluru. Let us all support the Pathway team for organizing this event in Mangaluru.”

Brand Ambassador Sanjana speaking on the occasion said, “Lagori is our childhood play. I wish all the players good luck, play well and be the champions.”

Actress Apeksha Purohit peaking on the occasion said, “I am much excited to take part in the Lagori championship here in Mangaluru. Winning or losing, Logori is just a game, play well and enjoy”.

Neta Murlidhar Rao, The director of Athletico Sports and Events Pvt Ltd Tushar M Jadhav, Chairman of Pathway Deepak Gangulli and others were also present.

Pathway team member Ganesh compered the programme. Captain of Karnataka Lagori team Kavya Attavar administered the oath. Mayor Kavitha Sanil and actress Apeksha officially inaugurated the 7th National Lagori Championship by playing Lagori.
