Adamar Swamiji inaugurates State-level PUC Handball Tournament

Udupi: The State-level Pre-University College Floodlight Handball Tournament organised by the Department of Pre-University Education, along with Poornaprajna College was inaugurated at the Poornaprajna Grounds here on December 2.
The inaugural programme began with an invocation by the college students. R B Nayak deputy director PU Education department, Udupi District welcomed the gathering. Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Adamar Math inaugurated the Tournament by lighting the lamp followed by releasing the balloons into the air.
In his inaugural message, Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Adamar Math said that Sports are important in a student’s life to maintain one’s physical health. As students, it is a must to participate in sports. Losing and winning is common in competitions and sports events, but one should not be sad and disheartened at losing and should take it as a challenge, he added.
Suresh Shetty Gurme Social worker and chief guest of the function urged all students to take an active role in sports events.
Dr Kishore Kumar C K Director Sports department Mangaluru University said that the state government is not showing interest to fill the vacated physical directors post in PU colleges. Many colleges are facing a shortage of Physical directors. Mangaluru University is providing Rupees One Lakh scholarship to the students who have achieved medals at the national level. The PU department is also showing interest to provide scholarship to national level sports persons, he added.

Dr Jagadish Shetty, Sandeep Kumar, Manjunath Jogi, Hariyappa Kotian, Geetha Ravi Shet, Yashpal Suvarna, Shridhar Shetty, Sharath Rao, Krishna Ambalpadi and others were present.
Nearly 800 students from 28 districts would participate in the event. 54 teams, boys and girls teams will be participating in the tournament. Winners of this year’s tournament would get the opportunity to take part in the national-level tournament.
