Mangaluru: The Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru was founded in 1987 and has evolved into a multi-faceted institution recognized globally for excellence in its specializations. The institution has excellent infrastructure facilities and state-of-the-art dental equipment. The undergraduate and postgraduate training programs for both pre-clinical and clinical aspects are imparted at the Light House Hill and Attavar campuses. The clinical facilities for training in medical subjects are available at the Kasturba Medical College Hospital, Attavar, which is a 651-bedded hospital. We provide an excellent atmosphere for studies and recreation. The college is recognized by the Dental Council of India and the Malaysian Dental Council. It is also ISO 9001:2000 certified.

Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Dr Dilip Naik , Dean of MCODS said, “In the last two decades, there has been an explosion in the development of new technologies, instruments, and materials in dentistry. These advances have enabled clinicians to complete procedures that were once considered impossible or that could be performed only by talented or lucky clinicians. The most important revolution has been the introduction and widespread adoption of the operating microscope (OM) which has revolutionized dentistry, especially endodontic practice worldwide”.

Dr Naik further said, “MCODS Mangaluru has recently procured the latest model of Zeiss, S 100/ OPMI Pico surgical dental microscope with integrated HD camera for documentation for both patient care and education with the supported infrastructural grant by VGST, Karnataka state Govt. under K-Fist Level-1. Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore is the first institute among the dental colleges in the country to procure this latest model of Carl Zeiss surgical microscope which is having the best optics and illumination to visualize details and fine structures at ease. This microscope will help in giving the precise dental treatment for the patient and also helps in solving patient’s problems happening during therapy”.

“On 28th January 2019, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at MCODS, Mangaluru is planning to have the inauguration of Surgical microscopic clinic at their Attavar campus. Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty, MLA of Karnataka State Assembly has kindly consented to be the chief guest and inaugurate this special clinic. Dr. Poornima Baliga, Pro Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal is the guest of honour. Dr V Surendra Shetty, Pro Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal will preside over the function. Dr. Dilip Nayak, Dean will be welcoming all the delegates and Dr. Kundabala, Professor and co-ordinator will be describing the salient features of our new microscope. Dr. Neeta Shetty Professor and Head of the department will give the vote of thanks. The program will be attended by dignitaries from KMC Mangaluru, MCODS Mangaluru and other neighbouring institutes” added Dr Dilip Naik.

Dr. Kundabala Shenoy, Professor and co-ordinator of the programme and Dr. Neeta Shetty Professor and Head of the department, MCODS were also present during the press meet.
