Advocates should Refrain from Contesting cases in Favour of Accused in Deepak and Basheer murder – Mithun

Mangaluru: “Recently Deepak Rao from Katipalla and Basheer from Akash Bhavan were brutally murdered. Both were innocent and were not involved in any crimes. When Deepak was murdered his owner Majid and Muslims helped in nabbing the accused and when Basheer was assaulted Hindu brothers helped in admitting him to the hospital. People of DK district want peace and harmony but some people want to create communal Violence and unrest in the district. We the members of youth congress will meet the advocates and request them to refrain from Contesting the cases of the accused in the Deepak and Basheer murder cases”, said the president of Youth Congress Mithun Rai in a press meet held at the Congress office here on January 10.

Addressing the media persons Mithun Rai said, “Members of the Youth Congress will meet the police commissioner T R Suresh and hand over a memorandum requesting him to investigate those behind Deepak and Basheer’s murder, these who funded the accused and those who are defending them. When such incidents occur we need to forget our differences and work to bring peace, harmony and brotherhood in the society. We cannot console the family members and fill the loss of their loved ones. But Being responsible citizens we can request the advocates to refrain from contesting the cases of the accused in Deepak and Basheer murder.”

Mithun Rai further said, ” If we want to stop such heinous crimes happening in the society, advocates should Refrain from contesting in favour of the accused in such cases. If any advocate from Mangaluru contest the cases of the accused in the Deepak and Basheer murder we will consider them as sympathisers of criminals because the facts are in front of every one to see. We will never support criminals even in our party and it is our policy. We want peace, unity and harmony in the society and that is the reason we have taken this step.”

Mithun Rai also said, “In the Bhasker Shetty murder case, Udupi advocates refrained from representing the accused. I want the advocates from Dakshina Kannada district also to refrain from contesting the case in favour of the accused which will send a clear message to anyone involved in criminal activities, thus reducing crime in the district. Recently a person named Bharat had tried to incite people by spreading rumours that he was attacked by some miscreants which are far from the truth. We request the police commissioner to take strict action against Bharat and impose goonda act on him.”

When questioned about the involvement of Ilyas who is the vice president of Ullal block Youth Congress in the target group, Mithun Rai said, “Why does the media not question about the photograph of Naresh Shenoy with PM Narendra Modi, Mithun’s photo with Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat? We are not supporting any criminals. If we come to know of Ilyas’s involvement in any crime, Youth Congress will immediately sack him from the party. The sad part is that the media is questioning about the photograph of Minister U T Khader and Moideen Bava with Ilyas. Congress party workers will not stoop to such low levels, if any of the party workers indulge in any crime we will immediately expel such persons from the party and request the police department to take action. Now the investigation is on and we have all the trust in the police department”.
