‘AEROPHILIA 2017’ A National Level Aeromodelling Competition and Air Show at Sahyadri..

Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management has taken the initiative to widen the innovative prospects in the field of aeronautics. Students of all grades and colleges across the country are invited to a two day National Level Aeromodelling competition “AEROPHILIA 2017”- an annual event on 27th & 28th ofJanuary2017. This competition provides a platform to the students to showcase their talents and pursue their passion in a field that is very unique and provide eclectic opportunities to be in terms as par with the other developed countries.

The Aerophilia 2017 airshow is performed by Abdullah Jassem and is open to the public and all students on 27th January 2017 from 10:30 am – 12:30 am. The air show will provide a multitude of learning experiences in mathematics, history, arts/graphics and science. And also on 28th January 2017, there will be a KITE show from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Sahyadri Campus.

The Aerophilia 2017 winners will be honoured with cash prizes worth of INR 1,45,000. This event will attract the nation’s aero modelling enthusiasts to Mangaluru. Apart from Aeromodelling we also have another exciting surprise for this year, ‘India’s first Drone Race’ also to be held at our campus with cash prize worth INR 50,000. Technical talks will be delivered by the chief guests on the importance of RC Modeling, the various career paths available and the importance of aero modeling in the development of the nation.

The competition will be held for two days at the Sahyadri campus and the participating teams are expected to design a radio controlled aircraft with the limitations regulated in its dimension and the power system. The aircraft is validated by its maneuverability and maximum payload carrying capacity, which will be tested in two successive rounds. Special attractive air shows will be performed by National and International radio flyers of National repute. IITs and NITs – the elite institutions of our nation are expected to participate in this competition.

The highlights of our event are:

• Virtual appearance by Dr. Parimal Kopardekarfrom NASA Ames Research center
• Fixed Wing and 3D Helicopter Airshow by a professional team of 5 from India and Dubai.
• Eminent guest from DRDO, Airforce, ISRO and IISc.
• Attractive cash prize for Aeromodelling, Drone Race and other competitions.

Expected spectators and Participants in total is about 1000-1500 students from various institutes of our nation.

We have eminent delegates coming from various countries who will share their expertise in their domain interest thereby enlightening our efforts.

• Prof. B N Karkera, a scientist from BARC who is a Director at KGRCS, Sahyadri
• Er. C J Jagadeesha, a Scientist from ISRO
• M R Vasudeva, a former director of Mangalore International Airport,
• J T Radhakrishna, director of Mangalore International Airport
• PC Pant, a Wing commander from Indian Airforce
• Padmavathi, Scientist/Engineer at Aeronautical Development Agency, Bengaluru
• Abdullah Ghasem Salehnezhad Moarafi, employee at Dubai Customs
• Essa Saeed Essa Binaynouh, employee at Dubai Police.

This event is organized by Team Challengers of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management; a group of students passionate about Aeronautics and Robotics. Experienced students who have participated in SAE International Aero Design Competition 2016 held in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, Boeing Aero Modeling Competition and various other aero modeling competitions is the organizing committee and the future prospects remain the same with more innovative ideas.
