After Indira Canteens, Pramod Launches District’s First Saviruchi Sanchari Canteen

Udupi: The Udupi district minister in-charge Pramod Mdahwaraj launched the district’s first ‘Saviruchi sanchari canteen’ for the Federation of Stree Shakti groups on Saturday, March 24 at the DC office complex premises.

Addressing the gathering Pramod Madhwaraj said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his budget 2017-18, had announced the launch of the ‘Saviruchi’ canteen. The ‘Zilla Stree Shakthi Mahila Okkuta’, comprising of women, has been formed in each district to run the canteens. The federation members themselves will run the canteen. Each federation will be given a loan of Rs 10 lakh by the Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation to purchase a specially-designed vehicle, utensils and as working capital. They will have to repay the amount to the department in interest-free monthly instalments.

According to the Chaithanya Zilla Stree Shakthi Mahila Okkuta, along with breakfast and meals, they can also prepare tea, coffee, snacks and fruit juice for sale. The 10-member team of the federation has already availed a two-day training in the management of the canteen along with maintaining hygiene. Initially, one vehicle will be used and it will further be increased as per the public demand.

Udupi Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu, vice president Sheela K Shetty, deputy director for women and child department Gracy Gonsalves were also present.
