All India Inter University Ball Badminton Tournament for Men at Alva’s College
Moodabidri: Former Karnataka Ball badminton player and Eklavya Awardee M S Puttaraju said, ‘’In those days we were playing ball badminton not to become popular or to earn trophies but the sheer joy of the game hooked us. Moreover, it was integral part of our life with heart and soul involvement’’. He was speaking after inaugurating All India Inter University Ball Badminton Tournament for Men, jointly organized by Mangalore University and Alva’s college Moodabidri, at Vidyagiri, Moodubidire.
He said hard work, dedication and perseverance always lead success. If you are spending your precious time, it is better to be a worthwhile, because the time once lost never gained back. Quoting American Gymnast Mary Lou Retton’s words ‘A trophy carries dust, memories last forever’, he recalled his memories with students. After hoisting sports flag, former minister K Abhay Chandra Jain said, Sport is the best way to be involved in physical activities. One shouldn’t be deter by the defeat, we should learn from it and move forward.
The tournament witnessed 88 University teams from different parts of India. The first day witnessed 30 matches in knockout battle. Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, Director of Physical Education Mangalore University Dr Kishore Kumar KC, Indian Ball badminton Federation General Secretary Dinesh Kumar were present among others.
