All Set! Over 1 Lakh Protesters to Converge on 15 Acre Ground for Peaceful Protest against ‘CAA & NRC’ in Adyar

All Set! Over 1 Lakh Protesters to Converge on 15 Acre “SHAH” Ground for Peaceful Protest “Janagaruthi Samavesha” against ‘CAA & NRC’ in Adyar on Wednesday, 15 January 2020

Mangaluru: The much-awaited day for the Peace Protest against Citizenship Amendment Act and National Registry for Citizens has finally arrived, and the D K and Udupi Muslim Central Committee is all geared up for the BIG PEACEFUL PROTEST happening today, Wednesday 15 January 2020 at the 15 Acre “Shah Ground” in Kannur/Adyar, right across the Highway from the Badriya Juma Masjid, in association with nearly 30 other organizations.

It should be noted that when State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai had instructed the DK and Udupi Muslim Central Committee to postpone the peaceful protest that was planned by the Committee against CAA and NRC at Nehru Maidan on 4 January 2020, and also that the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha was reluctant to give permission to hold the protest at Nehru Maidan, giving reasons about law and order situations, and also about traffic chaos due to one-way road stretch near Nehru Maidan, the Muslim Committee even though they agreed for the postponement of the protest, but were so determined to have their peace protest as soon as possible, and with strong determination and efforts have now found their own land/venue near Kannur/Adyar, on Mangaluru-Bengaluru Highway, ( next to Shell Petrol Station) & right across from Badriya Juma Masjid & Hazrath Sheique Valiyullahi Yusuf Siddique (Q S) Darga-Kannur/Adyar, on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

The Peaceful protest against Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Registry for Citizens by D K and Udupi Muslim Central Committee is planned in association with nearly 30 other organizations. Leader of Muslim Central Committee Haji Kodijal Ibrahim, (former MUDA Chairman) speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “After Police denied permission to hold the protest at Nehru Maidan, we have now shifted to a venue at Adyar, a 15-acre land belonging to three persons, which is named as “Shah Ground”.The location is right across the highway from Kannur/Adyar Juma Masjid, and we have got all the required permission from the police and other concerned authorities, and all parking arrangements have been made, and we are all set for the MEGA Peaceful Protest today. We are glad that the police dept and DC have made all the necessary regarding security and diversion of traffic, in order to make this protest peaceful and successful”.

In the wake of this mega peaceful protest, a Roll Call of police officers and personnel was held on Tuesday, January 14, at Police Grounds in the city. Information regarding the security as well as traffic arrangements was given to the police officers, who arrived from all the districts of Karnataka state. The roll call parade consisted of three ADGPs, one DGP, 11 SPs, 18 ASPs, 100 DySPs, 300 police inspectors and 500 police sub-inspectors. The police department has also handed out guidelines to the organizers and the participants in the event as well as to the general public. This mainly consists of traffic diversion to avoid roadblocks. Traffic diversion is already in force from 9 am to 9 pm on Wednesday, January 15 on the stretch of protest venue Highway road, and the Police and District Administration had made the following arrangements for today’s event –

*All two-wheelers coming from Mangaluru are to be parked at the ground in front of Jaguar showroom
*All cars and other four-wheelers coming from Mangaluru to attend the convention need to park their vehicles at Seizure Beedi grounds
*All buses coming from Mangaluru and B C Road have to be parked at Mohtisham grounds
*All two-wheelers coming from B C Road to the function should be parked at Kambli grounds
*All cars and other four-wheelers arriving from B C Road should be parked at Adyar Katte Jumma Masjid grounds
*All police and emergency vehicles will be parked at Well Ring parking and Shankar Vittal parking
*Buses coming from B C Road and Farangipete side should be parked at Heritage Ground parking
*Vehicles coming from Udupi and proceeding towards Bengaluru should take a diversion at Padubidri and go via Karkala-Dharmasthala to Shiradi Ghat
*Vehicles arriving from Bengaluru to Mangaluru should take a diversion at Melkar-B C Road via Konaje-Thokkottu and proceed to Mangaluru city
*Vehicles going from Mangaluru to Bengaluru should take diversion at Nanthoor and proceed through Pumpwell-Thokkottu-Konaje-B C Road
*One more diversion at B C Road Kaikamba for those travelling from B C Road to Mangaluru via Polali Kaikamba

The commissioner of police of Mangaluru city has requested the public to extend their full cooperation. Muslim Central committee members- Haji Kodijal Ibrahim, B M Mumtaz Ali, S M Rashid Haji, Hanif Haji Bunder, Basha Tangal, Salim Sufikhan, among others have requested the protesters to be peaceful, and not carry any political or organization banners/placards, and maintain peace during the entire programme. Among the speakers who will deliver the talk on CAA & NTC are- Retired IAS Officer Harsh Mander, Former IAS Officer and Activist Kannan Gopinathan, Retired Judge of Supreme Court V Gopala Gowda and Human Rights Activist Shivasundar.

Meantime, former MLA B A Moideen Bava has asked the police not to stop anyone from coming to take part in the “Mega Janagaruthi Samavesha”. District Congress Committee President K Harish Kumar has said that Congress will support the protest meet and has called upon all party leaders, elected representatives and workers to join in the peaceful protest. Even Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has said that all necessary security measures have been taken in the backdrop of this mass peaceful protest.

NRC is linked to CAA, which grants citizenship rights to Non-Muslims only. Previous amendments were not religion based. CAA 2019 is not for Assam only; it is for whole India. In NRC, all citizens (135 crore Non-Muslims & Muslims) have to prove nationality. Passport, Aadhar Card, Voters’ Identity Card will not be its proof. Dozens of crores Indians may fail to prove it. Muslims may be about 14.2% & Non-Muslims may be about 86% (population %). CAA may give nationality to refugees of 3 neighbor countries, if entered India legally, before 31-12-14, are not Muslims; not to anyone else. What… Read more »
