All set to receive ‘Chalo Udupi’ Jatha in Temple Town on October 9
Udupi: The Swabhimani Sangharsha Jatha – Chalo Udupi, which began in Bengaluru on October 4 will reach Udupi on October 9. The jatha, organised by a group of like-minded organisations, is being taken out from Bengaluru to Udupi demanding land for the landless and asserting freedom of food habits said G Rajeshekar president of Komu Souhardha Vedike Udupi District. He was speaking at a pressmeet held at the Ambedkar Bhavan Adi-Udupi here on October 5.
Fascist elements are engaged in politics over the cow in the country. They are assaulting Dalits and people of the backward class in the name of protecting cows. Swabhimani Sangharsha Jatha is a protest against the communal forces that are trying to divide the society.
After visiting different districts the jatha will enter Udupi district on Saturday October 8. On October 9 at 11 am a mega procession will be organised from the War memorial to Beedinagudde ground. The procession will be pass through Jodu Katte, Court Road, Kavi Muddana Road, Service Bus Stand, BSNL Road, Chittaranjan Circle, Mitra Hospital Road, Fish Market Road, Volakadu School Road and culminate at the Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Ranga Mandira.
After the procession a mega convention will be addressed by the main speaker Jignesh Mewani, social activist and organiser of Una Chalo movement. Jayamrutyunjaya Swami of Panchamashali Gurupeetha, Dinesh Amin Mattu, C.S. Dwarkanath, Bhaskar Prasad. Prior the convention members of the jatha will also visit the family of Praveen Poojary, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member, who was allegedly beaten to death for transporting cattle at Kenjur village on the night of August 17. All arrangements were being made for the convention. More than 7,000 people are expected to attend the convention, he said.
DSS leader Sundar Kappettu, Vittal Thottam, Parameshwar Uppoor, SS Prasad, Prashanth Thottam, Samatha Sainika Dala leader Vishwanath Pethri, Muslim Okkuta leader Salawuddin Abdulla, Christian leaders Fr Willim Martis, Dr Neri Cornelio, Valerian Fernandes, Buddist Maha Sabha leader Shambhu Suvarna, AAP leader Shanthala Damle, Social Activist Shashidhar Hemmadi, Pro.f K Phaniraj, Dinakar Bengre and others were present in the press meet.
It’s sad and as well surprising to see Fr William Martis in attendance of
a Press Meet on issues that are not Christian related.
I believe Fr William Martis, being a retired Priest of the Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, should instead attend to the needs of the poor and needy Christians and avoid issues that do not serve mankind or God.
