All’s Well that Ends Well! ‘Dare to Dream’ Pre-Unique Two-Day Mega Fest organised by St Aloysius Pre-University College-Mangaluru concludes, with The Crown of Overall Championship under High School category bagged by St Aloysius High School and Under PU Category, Aloysius PU College was declared as the Overall Champions. This proves that St Aloysius Institutions Rule!
Mangaluru: All’s Well that Ends Well!-That’s right. Quoting Shakespeare’s words, “But with the word the time will bring on summer, When briers shall have leaves as well as thorns, All’s well that ends well; still the fine’s the crown; Whatever the course, the end is the renown”, all I can say is that the organizing committee members of St Aloysius PUC “Pre-Unique” two-day mega fest have done a marvelous job by organizing this Fest which was a sheer success, and the curtain came down to say “Adios” to the unique and prestigious “Fest” after a glittering valedictory function, held on Saturday, 19 November at the SAC campus.
Lucet et Ardet! (Shine to Enkindle)- the Motto of St Aloysius College refer to the mind and heart. It is the deep desire of this Alma Mater to present to the nation and to the world men and women with minds bright with knowledge and creativity, and hearts burning with genuine love and concern for others with the vision of Empowering youth through excellence in education to shape a better future for humankind; St Aloysius Institutions of the Mangaluru Jesuit Educational Society, inspired by the person and mission of Jesus Christ, and guided by the motto “Lucet et Ardet”,(Shine to Enkindle) commit themselves to spread the light of knowledge and wisdom and to kindle the ardor of faith that does justice by forming men and women for others, who are academically accomplished, emotionally balanced, morally upright, socially responsible, ecologically sensitive and professionally dedicated, so that they are a powerful force for the transformation of society.
St Aloysius Institution has given ample opportunities to the students to take part in various co-curricular activities, sports, also in academics. The Institution has also given a chance to the students of other colleges to participate in various contests, thereby unleash their hidden talents and excel. And now by hosting ” PRE-UNIQUE” which was an extension of this tradition as the quest for talent spreading its wings and beckoning more talents from other Colleges and High schools. PRE UNIQUE 2016 challenged students to dare to dream and made their dreams become reality, during the 2-day mega fest which started on 18 Nov. and culminated on 19 November. This annual cultural and intellectual fest comprised of 42 competitions for the students to challenge themselves with. With over 50 institutions of the state registering for this mega event, the highlight of this year’s event was PPL (Pre-Unique Premier League) 2016 were colleges clashed for the title of Arts, Commerce and Science Best Team Award.
PREUNIQUE 2016 was be inaugurated on 18 November by lighting the traditional lamp and releasing the balloons in the air by Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ,the acting Rector of St Aloysius College along with Guest of honour is Ms Soujanya Hegde, a actress and anchor of Namma TV, Mrs Rekha K Alva, Vice -Principal of St Aloysius PUC, , Dr Ganesh Amin, Dean, SAC PUC, Mrs Kiran Shetty, Dean, Convener of Pre-Unique, Fr Lang John Bosco- Finance Officer, Leslie D’Souza- Lecturer in computer science, and student conveners of the Fest namely-Sujith Kumar, Ms Sharon Serrao, Sujir Kumar, Sanjay Pinto, Ms Sonal D’Souza, Wilma Fernandes, and Shreyas Shetty. Prior to the inauguration, the function began with invoking God’s blessing, and also a theme song “Dare to Dream” rendered by Vijeth Ullal and group.
The finale of Pre-Unique 2016 ‘Dare To Dream’ a two-day Mega Fest wrapped up with a Valedictory Programme at 4.30 pm on 19 November which commenced with a thrilling performance by the Alumni of Aloysius PU College and also by the Chief Guest Elton Mascarenhas, an Actor and Choreographer. The College choir invoked God’s blessings followed by a formal welcome by Vilma Fernandes, Convener. The Chief Guest Elton Mascarenhas gave a beautiful message to follow one’s dream and never to give up one’s dream. “Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. These are not cliches but real tools you need no matter what you do in life to stay focused on your path. Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams” added Elton.
Fr Melwin Mendonca SJ, the Principal congratulated the conveners for Daring to Dream Big and appreciated the hard work put in by everyone. He further added, “Aloysius PU College has created a history in 17 years having 50 High Schools and Pre-University Colleges participating in this Mega Event. This Fest has been a unique Fest to unleash the hidden talents of the students. In life, we may face lots of hurdles, but it is our duty to overcome such hurdles and come out successfully- and you all did it. Failures are there in life, but you all strived hard to overcome them. Like Steve Jobbs said, we need to dream big, to achieve big! Congrats for daring to make your dream come true. You all deserve to be praised and honoured for your hard work”
The Finance Officer, Fr John Lang Bosco SJ, in his address elucidated two kinds of dreams and asked everyone to follow the path of realistic dream. He further said, “Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure. Through hard work, perseverance and a faith in God, you can live your dreams. Keep hoping for tomorrow and one day tomorrow shall manifest your dreams.”
During the Programme, Pratheeka A M, Kannada Actor and student of Aloysius PU College was felicitated by the dignitaries. Mr Sujith Kumar, Convener, Proposed the Vote of thanks. After the Stage Programme, Prizes were distributed to the Winners of various events of High School and Pre-University Category. The Crown of Overall Championship under High School category was bagged by St Aloysius High School and Under PU Category, Aloysius PU College was declared as the Overall Champions. The Runner up in High School section was Canara High School Urva and in Pre-University level, Canara PU College. St Aloysius PU College applauded the Winners of all the events and congratulates the students for their active participation
In conclusion, Pre-Unique provided a platform for the students of St Aloysius Institution and also outside highschool and PUC students to unleash their talents and excel in their co-curricular activities. Pre-Unique was the intellectual and cultural fest which provided the students to perform on a big stage and grow in confidence and talent. This was a Fest that provided an opportunity to match their abilities with others on a competitive platform. The Fest brought together the rich cultural heritage of the country and helped to appreciate the diversity of our nation in order to build a strong India based on equality, fraternity, justice and liberty. Although everyone dared to dream, and most of them made their daring dreams come true by winning. Everyone had fun and frolic at the two-days mega Fest “.
