All’s Well that Ends Well! ‘Sahyadri Conclave’ of Science, Technology and Management concludes with Gained Knowledge & Great Memories

Mangaluru: “All’s Well that Ends Well!”-That’s right. Quoting Shakespeare’s words, “But with the word the time will bring on summer, When briers shall have leaves as well as thorns, All’s Well that ends well; still the fine’s the crown; Whatever the course, the end is the renown “- the organizing committee members of Sahyadri Engineering College have d done a marvelous job by organizing this Five-day “Sahyadri Conclave” of Science, Technology and Management which was a sheer success, and the curtain came down to say “Adios” to the unique and prestigious Biggest Conclave after a glittering valedictory function.

No doubt that it was ONE of the BIGGEST CONCLAVE in the HISTORY of Mangaluru, “Sahyadri Conclave”-the first Conclave on Science, Technology and Management that started on 6th and culminated on Wednesday 10th, January 2018. Science is about knowing; engineering is about doing. The science of today is the technology of tomorrow. Therefore Science conclave focus on holistic Integration through useful deliberations amidst all the scientists. Over 1200 delegates participated in this 5-day long conclave.

During the Five days, the Conclave had provided an opportunity to the young generation to meet and interact Noble Laureates, Internationally renowned Scientists and Industrialists. The primary purpose of the Conclave was to instill in young minds, the student participants spirit of scientific inquiry through motivating interactions with the renowned Nobel Laureates and Scientists. It also helped them in career guidance towards science and technology. The students spanning from various streams viz. High School, Pre-University students, UG and PG in Basic Sciences, Engineering and Management have actively participated in the conclave.

The interactive sessions have paved the way for a right career in the direction of scientific advancement and allied technologies for technical students and transformational leadership for management students. Sahyadri had hosted this event as a Social responsibility by providing this opportunity for high school students, as it is the right time for them to explore science and technology in the best way and chose their career. The Conclave covered sessions such as Interaction with Nobel Laureates, Panel Discussion with Scientists, Technocrats and Entrepreneurs, and other sessions on technology and management. There were technical sessions related to current technological advancements which were delivered by renowned professors and technocrats. The Conclave deliberated on the common Themes relating to life to make the young minds to be self-aware, scientifically and rationally analyze to be disciplined in its use without dis-abusing. The themes are Water; Energy; Environment; and Health.

During the Valedictory Ceremony, Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation while addressing the gathering shared the journey of the best last five days of Sahyadri Conclave. He proclaimed that at the closure of Sahyadri Conclave, the end goal has been achieved which was to inspire students in the field of Science, Technology and Management. As evidence of the outcome being met, he was fascinated to see students approaching the Nobel Laureates and the scientists and discuss their ideas & projects. He appreciated Sahyadri Staff and Students for managing such a great event and proudly acclaimed that the entire five-day event was organized and managed by the in-house team. He expressed his willingness to hold Sahyadri Conclave next year as well to reach the greater number of students with the support of the Government and other stakeholders.

Prof. Anush Bekal, Dept. of Electronics and Communication gave the overview of the Conclave and reported the day-wise event of the Plenary Sessions, Panel Discussions, Technical Sessions, Exhibition & Cultural Programme. Ad E Yonath, Nobel Laureate gave feedback of a whole new experience she had during Sahyadri Conclave in Mangaluru. She was touched by the enthusiasm of students and appreciated that the questions they asked were good. She urged students to get busy with Science and come up with fantastic new equipment.

Serge Haroche, Nobel Laureate while speaking to the gathering praised the curiosity of the students and the interactive sessions during Sahyadri Conclave. He said students of Mangaluru have a deep quest for knowledge and appreciated Sahyadri for its encouragement to such students. Joseph Sifakis, Turing Awardee in Computer Science expressed his happiness to interact with the young students. He observed that they have huge motivation for learning and stimulated them to add meaning to their life and make it worth living with their achievements in the field of science.

Chief Guest – M Gaurav Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka in his valedictory remarks expressed how happy he was to be seated amongst the brightest of the world. He conveyed the various initiatives of the Government of Karnataka to drive innovation, generate interest among female students in science, incubation network centres and also about the support in terms of funded projects and grants to interested students. He announced that there are Incubation Network Centres set up in totally 20 colleges and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is one among them. He urged students to be Job creators rather than Job seekers hence focusing on start-ups as a career.

Guest of Honour – Prof. Uma Maheshwar Rao Karanam, Director, NITK, Surathkal appreciated the Conclave by referring to the Resource persons & the theme. He advised students NOT to get disconnected with the society and the world. Start developing Hypothesis of any area of interest in science, evaluate it with experiments, analyse the results and communicate it to the society. He appreciated the theme – Science, Technology & Management wherein Management shall re-engineer the processes of science & technology required for the society.

Guest of Honour – Prof. K. Byrappa, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University appreciated the concept of bringing a variety of specialists, technocrats of various disciplines together for a Conclave. He had words of praise for Sahyadri since it is a budding institution just 10 years old and has given opportunities for thousands of students to listen to the Nobel Laureates and Scientists.

Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal thanked the gathering and Dr Molly Chowdhary, Head Training Department compered the Valedictory Ceremony of Sahyadri Conclave 2018.

The “Five Day Conclave” at the Sahyadri College under the able leadership of Dr. Manjunath Bhandari must have been the headlines not only for Mangalore but for the entire region. “Coclave” is a “Big Picture Word” in any imagination where experts from different disciplines and backgrounds must have shared their expertize and knowledge for the benefit of not only the students but also many faculty members and the public genius to share their ideas and talents for the betterment of tomorrow’s Technology, Science and Management.
