Mangaluru: “All’s Well that Ends Well!”-That’s right. Quoting Shakespeare’s words, “But with the word the time will bring on summer, When briers shall have leaves as well as thorns, All’s Well that ends well; still the fine’s the crown; Whatever the course, the end is the renown “- the organizing committee members of Manipal College of Dental Science have done a marvelous job by organizing the unique “Dentofest”- a Dental Exhibition as part of Silver Jubilee of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) during the “Dental Awareness Week”was a sheer success, and the curtain came down to say “Adios” to the unique and prestigious Fest during the valedictory function.
The main purpose of “Dentofest” was to promote the Oral Health by creating awareness about oral hygiene maintenance and preventing oral diseases. Good oral health is the mirror reflection of individual’s systematic well being. This exhibition included a complete tour on oral health. The variety of displays pertaining to Dental Care and Prevention of Dental disease brought an awareness among the people who visited the Fest, thereby also gaining knowledge and tips as to how to take care of their teeth and also prevention from dental/gum diseases. Even though there are many awareness programmes pertaining to Dental Care, but Dentofest helped people to learn more about dental care.
As part of Dentofest, a unique event “Action In Distress” was a milestone for MCODS-SRF in terms of equipping students with hands-on knowledge in handling Medical emergencies. In a profession like dentistry, health emergency is a peril that precipitates unannounced/unexpected and the only way to face it is being armed with the know-how of dealing with it. So keeping that in mind MCODS-SRF wanted to enhance the dental students in medical emergency skills, by organizing a one-day programme named “Action In Distress” held at Marena Sports Complex (a unit of Manipal University) on Thursday, 25 January 2018.
This program aimed to provide Dental students the know-how of facing Medical Crisis. This uniquely planned one-day initiative, specially designed to equip dental students to manage several, potentially life-threatening emergencies in the clinic, included stations of demonstration like Choking, Seizures, Chest pain, Anaphylaxis, Hyperglycemia and a hands-on Skills Station, which was demonstrated by professors in that field. Also during the Dentofest, a competition was organized for undergraduate dental students on various aspects of dental well being which was held on 24 Jan; and a drawing contest for little kids and college students was held today,27 January on the theme “Swachh Bharath” to manifest their thoughts on the clean mouth. Free dental checkup with basic dental treatment was made available for general public, and this service will be continued for 3 more months.
