Alva’s College Holds Press Day

Moodbidri: “The real crux of journalism lies in the print media, however, journalism students should opt print media as their initial career and accomplish greater heights in media later”, said U K Kumarnath, Resident Editor, Vijaya Karnataka News Daily, Mangaluru.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Press Day programme organized by Alva’s college Journalism dept, at the Kuvempu Hall, on Tuesday, July 24.

A solid ethical core characterizes a good journalist. The field of journalism is expected to be multi-talented as a matter of professional survival. With ever-evolving opportunities in the digital field, journalists need to keep their digital skills up to date, he added. Though 80 percent of people view television and 20 percent depend on print media, albeit, print media holds reliable and trustworthy position due to its liable nature. The scribe said, “Earlier this field was called as journalism, where now it is considered as media, including various channels of communication making the field more competent”.

Presiding over the programme Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman, Dr M Mohan Alva said, “Media has a profound impact on the society. There is no denial in the fact that it influences the society both in positive and negative ways”.

Practice journals of the dept, Alva’s Mirror, Alva’s Madhyama and the wall magazine Suddimane special editions were released on the occasion.

Moodbidri Press Club President Jaison Taccode, Alva’s College Principal Dr Kurian, Alva’s PG dept Head Dr Moulya Jeevanram, UG Journalism Head Reshma Udaykumar, Alva’s Humanities Stream Head Sandhya KS among others were present.

We have been hearing so many positive highlights pertaining to Alva’s University but we have never had the opportunity of visiting this fine Institution so far. We have visited Moodibidri on few occasions, but on our next visit we must try and visit this fine Institution. Owning a private Educational Institution in a country such as India is attached with multiple advantages. Firstly, the members of the faculty could be selected properly and those faculty members can be trained well and molded well to suit various disciplines.
