Amid heavy rain, Mowadi Chalo movement gets huge response
Kundapur: Amid heavy rain the Choice for food and right to land, the Mowadi Chalo movement was held on June 12 demanding the extradition of the accused who had assaulted the Koraga community youth for consuming meat.
Addressing the gathering K L Ashok State Secretary of Karnataka Komu Souhardha Vedike said, “The fringe elements assaulting three youth belonging to the Koraga community for consuming meat is condemnable. The meat was cooked during the engagement ceremony at Hosadu, Mowadi and Byndoor. The Coastal district is always known for dirty Cow politics from the last many years. The Sangh Parivar is planning to destroy the unity among the Dalits, Muslims, Christians and the Backward community. Last October, BJP activist Praveen Poojary of Kokkarne was brutally attacked an allegedly killed by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike members”.
He further said, “Again the Hindu activists have assaulted youth belonging to the Koraga community for consuming meat. The meat was cooked during the engagement ceremony at Hosadu, Mowadi and Byndoor. The attackers are roaming freely in Kundapur and the police have failed to arrest them. The fringe elements have destroyed the district with attacks on the deprived and backward classes and the government has also failed in initiating action against them. Youth are being exploited in the name of religion in the district. The Dalit association should introduce the Bheem Army which is actively operating in Uttar Pradesh. We will also be ready to teach a lesson to the fringe elements and prevent such attacks in the coming days”, he warned.
The Central Government’s notification on Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 has demoralized the farmers, who cannot afford to feed the aged cattle. The government is pushing its agenda to harass the minorities and Dalits.
Atrocities, suppression and discrimination is meted out on the Dalits, Muslims and other communities on the pretext of cow protection, beef eating etc. According to the recent data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture India retains its top spot as the world’s largest exporter of beef. For this beef export Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s native state Gujarat has a major contribution. Meat production in the State, under the BJP government has doubled in last 3 years. If the Modi government has the courage, let it ban the export of beef. The central government should stop fooling people with new rules, he added.
The victim Koraga Woman Shankunthala, Association leaders Bhaskar Prasad, G Rajshekar, Sundar Belavai and Vishwanath Petri also spoke on the occasion. Uday Kumar Tallur president of Karnataka Dalita Sangarsha Samithigala Maha Okkuta presided over the meeting.
