Annual Matsyotsava gets Huge Response at Pilikula

Mangaluru: The Fisheries Department in association with Fisheries Development Board and Dr Shivaram Karantha Nisargadhama jointly organized “Matsyotsava at Pilikula Nisargadhama, Moodshedde here on July 21.

The vice president of Zilla Panchayat Kasturi Panja inaugurated the Matsyotsava by releasing 25000 baby fish into the lake. Later there was an auction of the fish.

Addressing the gathering Kasturi Panja said, “The fish is highly nutritious food and provides a range of health benefits. Fish is good for the heart and helps the bones become strong. The fish we consume is 100% free of pesticides. Most of the people of the coastal area consume fish and some have made fishing as their profession. Today I see a number of fish lovers gathered here to buy fish. We have released 25000 baby fish into the lake, the big fish from the lake is being sold here today. I wish all the fish lovers to enjoy the Matsyotsava by buying fish and supporting the fisheries department.”

A booklet “Javabdariyutha Minugarike” (Responsible Fishing) was released on the occasion.

Gram Panchayat member Hariprasad Shetty, Dr M S Nazir, Jayaprakash Bhandary, Dr Mridula, Megna R and others were also present.
