Another Round

The road calls and I obey.
Liquid fire slithers to my brains.
Blurry vision, blurry world,
Blurry is the road ahead.

Ghostly flashlights blind my eyes,
Wavy roads in tangled knots.
Hands on wheel look steady, yet
Loose—like the mind I’ve lost.

Danger lurks as speed catches up,
The liquid, the thrill, the rush.
Coursing through my veins unchained,
Till I smash and end a family’s hopes.

The one true friend beside me
Washes his hands off my sins.
The whispers turn to roars quickly,
“Another round,” my throat screams.

Another round of this blurry madness,
Another round of crushing excitement,
Another round of that killing spree,
Another round of this fate and regret.

The aftermath is quite funny.
Law, I know, is tugged in my hands.
Turning and twisting it is my forte.
But the mob is harder to tame.

Mob control is an easy affair, for
Religion and God’s wrath it fears.
Screaming His name, I save myself,
And I pray He saves us all.

Another innocent life lost,
Another essay I’ll have to write,
Another shattered car and home,
Some other day and one more round.
