Appes’ {Mothers’} and Teachers’ to hold Protest Rally against Tulu Film ‘Appe Teacher’ on 2 June 2018 starting from Jyothi Circle at 2.30 pm and culminating at DC’s office.
Mangaluru: Even though the much awaited Tulu movie, ‘Appe Teacher’ was released in Kudla at Cinepolis on Friday, March 23, and which has been getting good response from the cine-goers, however two months later a bunch of women belonging to various Women Forum have decided to hols a protest rally against the maker of the Tulu Movie “Appe Teacher” on 2 June 2018, starting from Jyothi {Dr Ambedkar} circle at 2.30 pm and culminating near the DC’s office, where a protest will be staged and women activists will speak about the atrocities and harassment done on women.
This message was conveyed by Ms Chanchala Thejomaya-President of Mangaluru Taluk Mahila Mandala Okutta during a press met held at Mangalore Press Club, where she further said, ” In spite of various crimes, harassment, assault, rapes etc committed on women, we are indeed hurt by some of the scenes and lyrics highlighted in the Tulu Movie ‘Appe Teacher’ degrading and insulting the women. Even though we had submitted a memorandum to DC Sasikanth Senthil, Police Commissioner, Mayor and other District authorities to stop screening of this movie after it was released, but no action was taken- being one reason they all gave, with the excuse of elections being announced”
” But even though it’s been over two months now since the movie has been released, we will never give up our fight. At least now the authorities can still take action and stop screening of the movie, and not allow it be screened in other parts of the country, and in Gulf countries. We also want the concerned authorities to put a ban on the producer/Director and main persons in this Tulu Movie for the next five years, and also action against the male and female actors for degrading and insulting women through their dialogues in the movie. We request the participation of all women, old and young, to join us in the protest rally, thereby we can raise our voice in the society that women should be treated with respect and not criticized and humiliated” added Ms Thejomaya. Various women organizations will be joining in this protest rally, and the members of the Women Forum have already visited many women colleges in town requesting their participation.
