Arrest BSY, Shobha for Instigating Communal unrest in Coastal Karnataka – SDPI

Udupi: The Social Democratic Party of India Udupi district unit staged a protest on July 17 and demanded the arrest of BJP state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje for their statement, “If RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat is arrested, Karnataka will burn”.

Addressing the protesters Ashraf Jokatte, district committee member of Popular Front of India, Mangaluru said, “Earlier the Coastal district had witnessed intense communal clashes claiming the lives of many Muslims, but the BJP has been highlighting the death of 26 Hindus. The Coastal district has been witnessing communal unrest from past 50 days wherein 2 innocent Muslim youth were murdered and 7 cases of stabbing were reported. Though section 144 has been in force in view of maintaining the law and order situation in the region, the BJP leaders Shobha Karandlaje and Nalin Kumar, on the pretext of condemning the death of Sharath, have been involved in creating a communally turbulent situation in BC Road by mobilising large crowds and disturbing the peace and harmony there which is total disrespect for the deceased Sharath. It is notable that a case has been registered against the two Parliamentarians in the Bantwal Police station. The Police and the BJP have targeted only the Muslims in several incidents”.

Ashraf Jokatte further said, “The people of the district appeal to the District Police to arrest the actual culprits in the killing of Sharath. It is unfair to blame SDPI or the Popular Front for the murder while the investigation is still on. This is nothing but a conspiracy to misguide the police and an attempt to fix innocents in this case. Earlier anti-social elements of the Sangh Parivar had made such false allegations in 2 murder cases, one of Karthik Raj and another of a youth from Shivamogga which was later proved to be done as a result of family disputes. This killing too could have been made due to such conditions”.

Ashraf Jokatte also said, “Responsible Parliamentarians who were supposed to see to an unbiased and timely investigation, are indulging in giving out statements Instigating communal unrest in Dakshina Kannada. Shobha and Nalin have written a letter to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh urging for an NIA investigation in the murder of 2 Sangh Parivar activists. It is a matter of shame that they have included cases of murders which were committed out of personal and family enmity. It is deplorable that the BJP leaders have not furnished in their letter the cases wherein several innocents including Harish Pujari, Praveen Pujari, Krishnayya Vatali, Vinayak Baliga, Mustafa Kavoor, Ashraf Kalayi, Jaleel Karopadi, Safwan Patla, Nasir Sajipa who were murdered by the Sangh Parivar goons. This proves their racist trend, traditional Hindutva face and anti-democratic stand”.

For the last four years, RSS-BJP has been making desperate attempts to give communal and political colour for the suicides and death of government employees. It is difficult to put an end to communal hatred in our country unless these corrupt and communal politicians are dealt under the law. Therefore action against them is imperative, the Lok Sabha Speaker and Election Commission should take note of such activities and initiate appropriate action against Parliamentarians Shobha Karandlaje and Nalin Kumar by suspending their membership in the Lok Sabha.

Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) Karnataka State President Abdul Hannan urged the government that the BJP Parliamentarians, MLAs and leaders Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Sharan Pumpwell, Jagadish Shenava and several others should be jailed for Instigating communal unrest to create anarchy in the state.

Condemning the statement, “If RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat is arrested, Karnataka will burn,” by B S Yeddyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje, the police and the state administration should put them behind bars, he added.

The district president of Komu Sauhardha Vedike G Rajshekar said that in the coastal district a section of the media and police jointly targeting a particular community is condemnable. Instead of taking action against the real culprits they are targeting peaceful Muslims.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s recent statement after a long silence, where PM Narendra Modi commented against cow vigilantes and asked the states to take strict action against those violating the law in the name of cow protection. No person or group can be allowed to take the law into their own hands, is applicable. But his own party members are killing innocent people in the name of Cow. Is MP Shobha Karandlaje ready to follow the instructions of Narendra Modi? he questioned.

Abdul Rehaman Malpe General Secretary SDPI Udupi, Ashif Koteshwar, president SDPI, Riyaz Farangipet state secretary SDPI Karnataka, Abdul Jalil State conviner SDTU Karnataka, Fr William Martis and others were present.
