Mangaluru : Behind the white apron is a kaleidoscopic full of magnificent color and immense talent- and for the FIRST time ‘The Adrenaline 2020’ youth festival, a annual event of the Father Muller Medical College had an Art Exhibition – “KRITI” as part of the Fest, where visitors had a chance to witness the art works of the “Healing Army” as they had picked up their paintbrushes instead of their steths (Stethoscopes), and meticulously created some lovely paintings/art works on a bright and lovely Friday morning of 21 February 2020, which brought in lots of Wow from the visitors to the exhibition. Apart from medicos, there were other local artists also displayed their artwork.

Art is something that makes you breathe a different kind of happiness”- and Health care providers strive to spread cheer and happiness amongst their patients .The Chief guest for the inaugural was Dr Akther Hussain, Dean of Yenepoya Dental College, who also is a world renowned artist whose painting and murals adorn houses of power and repute. In his address, he profoundly congratulated the organizers for envisaging such event and that art and culture were the means of passion to showcase one’s self to the world. He remembered his days in St Aloysius, when Fr Lawrence D’souza gave him the key to the museum to feel the art and sense the exhibits and books and relays its colours on canvas. This imprinted in him the artist and even though how busy he got, his art never left his side.

Dr Akther Husain further said, “The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity. It is important to express oneself…provided the feelings are real and are taken from you own experience. To be an artist is to believe in life. Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant, there is no such thing. Making your unknown known is the important thing. Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art. Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen. Today’s art work display shows the unique talents of doctors and dentists apart from their profession, and we need to appreciate the initiative brought forth by Dr Erel Diaz by organizing this art exhibition, joined by the coordinators of Adrenaline in arranging this art exhibition, which has received tremendous response”

Rev Fr Richard A. Coleho, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, in his presidential address essayed the humanist nature of an artist. “The artist thinks, ponders, assimilates and put forth’s the essence of life on paper, clay or stone. Artist a many, are calm, contemplating individuals who have a peaceful thought of their surroundings” he said. He remembered during his College days, Akhter’s popularity during the college elections at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. Akther, though his senior never made anyone feel so during his stint in the college. He lauded the efforts of the Adrenaline organizers for setting up an art exhibition and Dr Erel for bringing something new to the campus. “May your art inspire many others, and that they too take up the hobby of painting. Painting is the grandchild of nature. It is related to God”, said Fr Coelho.

Nearly 30 medicos and other artists around Mangaluru joined together to present their art forms at Kriti , which displayed various art forms in different sizes like oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolors, charcoal Andrew pencil sketches. Kudos to the “Brain child” behind this unique idea which was conceived by Dr Erel Diaz , Professor Department of Surgery-FMMC and also the coordinators of Adrenaline. This platform served a dual purpose of showcasing the hidden talents of the health care providers along with encouraging budding talent.

One artist who is pursuing her medical career speaking on her paintings said, “In my painting I use fundamental, geometric shapes: squares, rectangles, triangles, and an occasional circle as a kind of vocabulary. I arrange the forms to interplay with one another. I use color to fill the forms or highlight the forms and create other interactions. Art is a creative outlet that helps to balance the day to day pressures of Medical practice. Medical science saves lives, but art has its own healing properties and perhaps life altering changes in the society”.

Rev Fr Ajith B Menezes, Administrator FMMC, Dr J.P. Alva, Dean FMMC, Prof. Dr Erel Diaz, Prof Dr Suresh (HOD Radiology), Dr Lenon and Dr Mahesh-the coordinators of Adrenaline 2020 were present of the podium. Dr Padmaja Udaykumar grace d the event with other staff and students. Ms Shruthi Vikram, a Final MBBS student at FMMC compered the event.
