Assault on Doctor at Sirsi, IMA Demands Arrest of MP Ananth Kumar
Mangaluru: The Indian Medical Association in association with AMC, COS, FDA, API, Hospital Association, FOGSI, KGMO, and nurses of various hospitals as well as medical colleges staged a protest against the BJP MP Ananth Kumar for assaulting a doctor at Sirsi, opposite to the RTO office here on January 7.
Prior to the protest, a rally was flagged off from the IMA hall which culminated at the Nehru maidan.
The protest was held in connection with the assault by the BJP MP Ananthkumar Hegde on the duty doctor at Sirsi Hospital.
Addressing the protesters Dr K R Kamath said, “On January 2, one of the doctors was assaulted by the MP of Uttara Kannada Ananth Kumar. The person who assaulted the doctor should be arrested and stringent action should be taken against him. He has taken the law into his hands. The MP himself is indulging in violence by assaulting the doctor on duty. If a responsible person indulges in violence and assaults a doctor on duty what about the common man? The police have also not registered any case against the MP when the doctor went to the police station. Members of the IMA from Sirsi and Kumta had also gone to the police station to file the case. Now we have handed over a memorandum to the DC to take action against the MP. Anybody indulging in violence against the doctors or medical staff on duty should be arrested on non-bailable offense. This is a most disgraceful incident in the history of medical field since after the incident the medical staff afraid to work.”
Dr Kamath demanded stern action against the MP and give justice to the doctors.
A memorandum was submitted to the DC by the Senior doctor Dr Shantaram Shetty along with other doctors. Senior doctors Dr I G Bhat, Dr Raghavendra Bhat, Dr G K Bhat, Dr Shubhakar Bhandary, Dr Annayya Kulal , Dr Prakash Harischandra, Dr Yusuf Kumble, Dr Mohammed Ismail and Dr Janardhan Aithal among others were present.
Instead of street protest Doctor should write open letter PMO and release copy at the same time to mass media both nationally and Internationally.
They should set a deadline,to take action and ask the MP to tender unconditional apology.
Jungle Raj of elected BJP MP should have zero tolerance and it should be accountable.
