Associations Bat for Fulfilment of Demands made by Police

Udupi: The family members of police together with retired police officials, Bajaranga Dal, Sri Rama Sene, NECF and other associations will march to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to submit a memorandum to the government to address the issues and needs of the police in the state on June 4, said retired police constable Sandeep Kumar M.

The demands made in the memorandum were that the salaries of police need to be increased and better basic facilities be provided. The salaries of police in other states are relatively higher; the central government’s pay structure should be initiated for the Karnataka police. The Arogya Bhagya scheme should also be extended to retired police officials. Salaries should also be paid if police officials work on weekly holidays. Travelling allowance should be hiked. Barracks should be constructed in taluks for police. The quality of products should be maintained on the ration given to police.

In addition, they also demanded the scrapping of the orderly system in the police department, payment of overtime to officials working beyond 8 hours, extension of maternity leave to 9 months, risk allowance, and recommendation of police constables and head constables for Chief Minister’s and President’s medals.

A protest march will be organized on June 4 from Ajjarkadu to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Rajathadri. Later, a memorandum will be submitted to the deputy commissioner, he added.

Karnataka Karmika Vedike president Ravi Shetty, Nithayanada Volakadu and others were present.
