Kolkata, June 26 (IANS) Indian Super League (ISL) team Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) co-owner Sourav Ganguly said on Friday that it was yet to decide on the marquee player for the upcoming season.
Spanish football legend Luis Garcia was ATK’s marquee player last season but he was not retained for the new season. ISL is scheduled to begin on October this year.
“The team is almost ready, we have signed a few good players but are yet to decide on the marquee. Besides Spain we are also looking into other countries to see from where we can get one,” Ganguly said.
The former India cricket captain also confirmed that like last year the team will travel to Spain for their pre-season training adding that coach Antonio Lopez Habas and consultant Bhaichung Bhutia would be present for the player’s drafting on July 10.
“We will be travelling to Madrid for a three-week training camp again this year,” he said.
ATK’s Ethiopian striker Fikru Teferra has joined rivals Chennaiyin FC for the next season starting in October.
Speaking on the issue, Ganguly said: “He was released by us so he was free to sign for any other franchise.”
