Augsburg beat Frankfurt in Bundesliga
Berlin, Feb 5 (IANS) Augsburg moved 3-0 past Eintracht Frankfurt owing to two second-half goals, while struggling Hamburg held newly promoted Hannover to a 1-1 draw at the closer of the 21st round of Bundesliga football action.
Augsburg returned to winning ways and shocked the in-form Eagels on goals from Ja Cheol Koo, Michael Gregoritsch and Marco Richter on Sunday, reports Xinhua news agency.
The Fuggerstaedter ensured a bright start on home soil as Kevin Danso and Koo worked out promising opportunities in the opening period.
Koo remained in the thick of things as the South Korean international broke the deadlock after slotting home his second goal of the season from close range with 19 minutes played.
Frankfurt had the chance to level the scores moments later but Luka Jovic’s header rattled only the woodwork in the 21st minute.
However, Augsburg dictated the pace and should have doubled the lead before the break but neither Caiuby nor Gregoritsch were able to make the most of their golden chances.
After the restart, Frankfurt’s goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky kept his men in the game as he denied Marcel Heller’s effort following a one-on-one with six minutes into the second-half.
The Eagles lacked in penetration and were unable to pose any threat, whereas Frankfurt doubled the lead in the 76th minute when Gregoritsch controlled the ball inside the box to tap home from inside the box.
The hosts were not done with the scoring and sealed the deal in the closing period as Marco Richter tripled the lead with his first ever Bundesliga goal.
With the result, Augsburg climb to 7th place while Frankfurt slipped to the 6th position of the Bundesliga standings.
