Roseau (Dominica), June 3 (IANS) The visiting Australian Cricket team has donated a quantity of cricket gear and equipment to Dominica’s original inhabitants, the Kalinago people.

The donation includes bats, balls, plastic stumps and other basic training equipment such as markers, reports CMC.

The presentation was made to young cricketers of the tribe which numbers about 3000 located on Dominica’s east coast.

“It’s amazing to hear that there are only 3,000 Kalinago people here in Dominica,” declared all-rounder Shane Watson who made the presentation to the youngsters at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Roseau on Tuesday.

“So it’s nice that the support crew brought some equipment over for them which will help them out and continue to grow their love of the game. It is really nice to meet them and spend some time with them.”

The Australian cricket team will take on the West Indies in the first test of the 2015 Home Series at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Roseau from Wednesday.
