Author Ganga Padekal Bags Anupama Award
Bantwal: Ganga Padekal (nee P Ratna G Bhat), a well-known story-writer and author from Padekal in Kanyana in the taluk, has been chosen to receive the prestigious Anupama award for the current year.
Born in Puttur as the daughter of Keshava Bhat of noted gold merchants from Muliya family, she got married into a joint family from Kanyana. She has written ten novels and published four anthologies.
Shila Kumari from Kasaragod has secured an M Phil from Kannur University for her dissertation on the complete works of Ganga Padekal.
She also finds a prominent mention in the theses on women writers of the coastal region submitted by Manjula of Kolar and Sulata Vidyadhar of Moodbidri.
She had chaired the tenth Bantwal taluk Kannada literature meet held in 2004. In the past, she has been honoured with Mallika award from the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Krishnabai award, H V Savitramma award, Bhima Bhat award and others.
The Anupama award will be presented to her at a function scheduled to be held in the Kannada Sahitya Parishat premises in Bengaluru on July 3.
