Auto Driver murder and stone pelting at Mosque case, HJV activist Arrested
Udupi: The Town police arrested an HJV activist in connection with the murder case of an Auto driver and the pelting of stones at the Adi Udupi Mosque here on January 31.
According to the police, the arrested person is an HJV activist around 28 years of age and a resident of Mangaluru. Police officials have refused to reveal his name for investigation purpose. He is also said to be facing many communal related cases.
On Sunday, January 29 night Auto Driver Haneef, a resident of Nittur was on his way home in his auto along with his relative Shabbir. Shabbir was driving the auto on the wrong side of the road, the accused bike rider stopped and questioned Haneef, as to why was he driving his autorickshaw on the wrong side of the road? A quarrel broke out and Haneef was stabbed by the accused. When Shabbir, tried to intervene, he too was attacked. Both were rushed to the hospital but Haneef breathed his last on the way.
Thereafter the accused proceeded to Adi-Udupi Nurul Islam Mosque and pelted stones. The crime was recorded on CCTV.
The department had formed 5 teams to nab the culprits, based on the CCTV footage police have taken the HJV activist into custody for interrogation. During interrogation, he is said to have confessed to committing both the crimes, said sources.
