Avoid Snatching Citizens Right to Vote by Linking Voter ID with Aadhar – J R Lobo

Mangaluru: “Today I have received many complaints about the deletion of the names from the voters’ list. Those voters who have cast their votes in the Assembly elections in 2018 were dropped from the voters’ list. In January when the last list was published their names were present in the list but today when the same voters went to the polling booth to cast their vote they were shocked to learn that their names were deleted. There is a conspiracy in removing the names of voters from the list. I even suspect the involvement of the officials in this deletion process since this has been done without any notice to the voters which is snatching away the voting rights of the citizens. I urge the Election commission to link the voter ID with the Aadhar to avoid such problems”, said the former MLA of South Constituency J R Lobo in a press meet held at the DCC office Mallikatta here on April 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Lobo said, “In Booth number 1, from serial number 382 to 409, 411 to 417, 421 to 423 and 426 have been deleted. Shreyas Bhat’s name has been deleted from the voters’ list and Shravan Kumar’s name was added and later deleted. All these voters are very much in the city and their names have been deleted without any notice. In Bikkarnakatta booth number 55, there are 1172 voters but in the voters’ list, there are only 942 names. Rest of the names have been deleted. In the last assembly elections these voters have cast their votes but this time nearly 230 names have been deleted.”

Lobo further said, “In Nalyapadav Shawn Corrine Fernandes, Maria Deepti Sequiera, Chandralekha Rao, Prashanth Kumar K S, Guruprasad R, Rajashree R, Chaithra and Beefathima’s names have been deleted. Deleting the names of the voters without any notice is a crime. Those who are involved in this malpractice should be severely punished. I will collect all the documents and file a complaint to the election commission in the state as well as at the national level so that those who involved in this crimes will be punished.”

Lobo also said, “I have doubt in my mind that some of the officials are also involved in this deletion process because without the help of the officers it is not possible to delete any of the voters’ name from the list. Even the bureaucracy is lethargic and this system is not correct. I urge the election commission to link the voter ID with Aadhar card to avoid such practices”.
