Awareness of Drug-Abuse Consequences Should Start from Home – Nalini Pradeep Rao
Udupi: The awareness of the consequences of drug abuse should start from every house, said President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat Nalini Pradeep Rao. She was speaking after inaugurating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking event at the Ravindra Kala Mantapa of MGM College on Wednesday June 26.
elders to be cautious enough not to smoke and drink in the house. “If the elders inform the children of the bad effects of various addictions, it would help improve the situation in society,” she added.
Rao also said that one thirds of the accidents reported in India are due to drunken driving, which is a rise in figures. Building a healthy society and nation is possible only when the children and youngsters remain away from drugs.
“Drug abuse is a social menace. The use of tobacco should be banned and the laws related to it should be strictly implemented to prevent smoking in public places. Number of drug addicts is correlated to financial independence among young persons. So, parents should be cautious while giving pocket money to their wards. Consumption of tobacco and liquor will lead to cancer and damage liver respectively,” she added.
Taking drugs is not a need of life, it is just a luxury. Consumption of drugs harms physical and mental stability, it is not a personal issue but an issue related to the society as a whole. Fighting drugs is not the job of any one or two people, as the society has to play a key role by creating awareness against substance abuse.
Additional DC Viday Kumari said, “The youth of our country are heavily influenced and most of them have turned out to be drug addicts. A drug addict is not only a menace to his or her family but also to the entire society. Every youth of the country should understand that drug abuse is a social menace. the youths should be determined and have goals to achieve. They should not fall prey to drug abuse, she advised, adding, “Students should work for social causes and contribute to the growth of society.”
Prior to the program, Udupi SP Nisha James inaugrated the awareness Jatha from Board College to MGM College.
Karnataka State Madyapana Samyama Mandali (Bengaluru) Secretary Rohini K, MGM College Prinicpal K Vinay, Udupi District Information Officer Khader Shah and others were present.
