Mangaluru: JD(S) Corporator, Abdul Azeez Kudroli held a press meet at Hotel Woodlands here, on April 28.

Addressing the mediapersons, Azeez said, “Antony Waste Management (AWM) has been looting Rs 99 lakhs from the taxpayers every month. The AWM had signed an agreement with the MCC towards managing Mangaluru’s waste for 7 years. But some MCC officials have joined hands with the AWM and have been violating the terms of the contract.”

He said that the AWM is violating the contract terms by using old vehicles and by using vehicles registered under the former waste management companies, while the contract terms dictate that only new vehicles are to be used. “Some vehicles are registered in Nagaland and Maharashtra. These vehicles are running in Mangaluru without proper permits. We have brought this to the notice of the traffic department who have promised to take appropriate action,” Azeez said.

He further said, “AWM has no street sweeping machine and are fined Rs 3 lakh every month for this. But the MCC is paying them Rs 10 lakh every month for sweeping the streets. So the company makes Rs 7 lakhs profit for nothing.”

“We had raised the issue of term violation in the previous General Assembly and had sought to put a stay on AWM’s bill payments. Action should have been taken by the Mayor, but so far there has been no action initiated against the company and in this month alone Rs 2 crore has been passed as pending dues to AWM. If MCC doesn’t take AWM to task, we will approach Lokayukta and also take legal action,” Azeez said.

JD(S) District President, Mohammed Kunhi said, “MCC has failed to deal with the water problem and are holding meetings only for the sake of publicity. In the rural areas there is acute shortage of power as well.”

Corporator Rameeza, Youth JD(S) leader, Akshith Suvarna and others were also present.

Please accept that Antony Waste Management has made Mangalore as one of the cleanest cities in India. There might be some problems which have to be discussed in the Mangalore City Corporation. as a Corporator the elected representative should see that things are set right inside the corporation

I do not see merit in the argument given by this corporator that different vehicles and not new vehicles being used. Sir please first look after your area – what have you done to lift the image of Kudroli area with respect to rest of the city? The second point raised is a technical issue and has to be dealt inside the MCC and it is the MCC that is responsible. Please try to understand that being a corporator is a privillege to serve Mangaloreans. Do not misuse it. The days of non performing corporators in MCC are coming to… Read more »

There is no merit in the arguments given by these corporators. We the tax payers expect our corporators to work hard and do justice to their jobs. Please make Kudroli a model area for the rest of the city to look upto first.
