Bajrang Dal leader arrested in Bulandshahr cop murder case
Lucknow: Police arrested on Thursday the prime suspect in the killing of police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh during mob violence in December in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr.
Yogesh Raj was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday after a tip-off led a police team to his hide-out in Bulandshahr.
Raj is the district coordinator of Bajrang Dal and has been wanted for his involvement in inciting the crowds over alleged cow slaughter, at Sayana in Bulandshahr, which led to the murder of the Inspector and a civilian, Sumit.
Sources say some political leaders “facilitated” Raj’s arrest.
Another prime accused in the police official’s murder case, Kalau, was arrested on Tuesday. He had allegedly hit Singh on his head with an axe.
The weapon has also been recovered.
Prashant Nat, who is already in police custody, is accused of shooting the Inspector.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bulandshahr, Prabhakar Chowdhary, had said that during interrogation, Kalau revealed that the Inspector was first hit on his head by an axe and then shot.
