Ban on Private Vehicles Until April 14 – District Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary
Mangaluru: After several warnings, the people of Dakshina Kannada are not serious about the deadly COVID-19. Mangaluru is now one of the cities in the Red Zone list and people are still not maintaining social distance. To prevent the coronavirus from further spreading, the district administration has taken various measures. To prevent more vehicles from moving on the roads, the district administration has banned all the private vehicles from April 3 until April 14.
On April 1, police commissioner Dr Harsha requested the people not to come out of their houses in their vehicles after 12:30 pm. He also warned that vehicles not following the lockdown would be seized. Even after a number of requests and warnings people were not serious about COVID-19. On April 2, the police seized 154 vehicles which were on the road after 12:30 pm.
In the evening in his video message, Dr Harsha said, “To prevent more vehicles from moving on the roads, we have banned all the private vehicles from April 3. Since the Coronavirus is rapidly spreading, we need to do everything in our power to stop it. I urge everyone to stay at home. If anyone wants to buy any essential items, they should buy from nearby shops without using their vehicles. For any medical emergencies, people can call 108 or toll-free number 1077”.
At 11:12 pm Dr Harsha tweeted, “Despite clear orders of the district magistrate few people were enquiring. From when is the ban on private vehicles? From 2 April 2020 till when 14 April? Can I take out my vehicle tomorrow? or any day from 7 am till 12 noon… No… No Private vehicles till April 14, 2020.”
