Bantwal: District Youth Congress’ former president Bondala Jagannath Shetty was an up-and-coming young leader who had a promising political career ahead of him.
But cruel fate snatched him away in a mishap at Melkar near Bantwal, his hometown, on July 31, 2012. As he was returning home after dropping his driver at his house, a gas tanker from the opposite direction collided. He died in the mishap.
Kumar, the driver of the tanker from Hassan, was subsequently arrested and chargesheeted.
On Monday, magistrate R Mahesh of the JMFC court here handed out a jail-term of a year and ordered payment of a penalty of Rs 5,000 for causing the death.
Prosecutor Mohammed Shaukat Ali had argued the case for the prosecution.
