Children grow into youngsters. If not provided with proper orientation at this stage, they would most likely to violate traffic rules when they come of age to ride or drive vehicles.

Instead of catching them after they commit the offence, why not catch them young right now and help them grow into responsible citizens?

With this aim in mind and under the initiative of Kukkaje Friends Club in Manchi and in association with the Government High School there, an interaction between the students and the police officials was held in the school last week.

School development and management committee president D K Hamza presided over the programme. Shareef Kukkaje, leader of the Kukkaje Friends Club, gave introductory remarks.

Adolescent children, who could naturally have an inborn sense of awe and fear for the khakhi uniform, were made to feel comfortable with the cops.

Shedding aside hesitation, they shot questions at the police officers Chandrashekharaiah and ASI Bhaskar of the rural station. The topics ranged from law and order to traffic issues. It indeed turned into an interesting discussion.

Ad-interim headmaster of the school, Hanumantappa Bhajantri, staffers Dinesh Poojary, Sudarshan, Babita, Violet Lenny Dias, Sushma and Kusuma and Bantwal PC Chandrashekhar were present.

Club members Ashiq Kukkaje, Basheer Kukkaje, Iqbal, Sinan, Jabbar and others contributed to the success of the programme.

Speaking exclusively to this correspondent, Chandrashekharaiah said that he had taken the initiative to minimize the traffic jams earlier frequently experienced at the Melkar junction.

He further said that he organized similar programmes in other schools also, with the cooperation of the school managements and committees. Morchas on traffic safety were also being planned to create awareness among the public, he added.
