Bantwal: Abdul Sattar Goodinabali has proved yet again that his name is a synonym for honesty.

Earning his livelihood as an autorickshaw driver, he has promptly returned valuables left behind by passengers in the past.

A few years ago, he, risking his own life, had saved a Hindu woman and her child, while she was in an attempt to commit suicide by jumping into river Netravati, when it was in full spate during the rainy season. He had been lauded by everyone. He was also honoured in public by Kollya Swamiji with a title “Netravati Veera”.

He also keeps himself busy with socially beneficent activities. He proved his integrity yet again on Wednesday by returning a bag containing valuables to the three women from Nandavar who had travelled in his rickshaw some time earlier.

They had engaged his vehicle B C Road to Panemangaluru. The bag containing gold, cash and other documents had been left behind by them. Sattar had noticed it first. When he said his prayers in a nearby mosque, the bag had safely remained in the autorickshaw.

On seeing it, he rightly guessed that it belonged to his passengers who had engaged the rickshaw. He began looking around for the women. In the meantime, they too arrived by another rickshaw looking for him. On proper identification, he returned the bag to them. On being offered a suitable reward, he politely refused to accept it.

May their tribe increase!
