Barcelona vs Valencia, Leganes vs Sevilla in Spanish Cup semis
Madrid, Jan 27 (IANS) According to the draw held fo the Spanish Cup semi-finals, three-time defending champions Barcelona will take on Valencia and Leganes will play Sevilla.
Valencia will face Barcelona for the 20th time in Spanish Cup history, reports Efe.
Barcelona have won 13 of these match-ups, including the 1970-1971 Spanish Cup final while Valencia took the other seven pairings and the 1951-1952 final.
Barcelona have reached the semi-finals for the eighth time by way of beating their cross-town rivals Espanyol.
For their part, Valencia reached this stage after defeating Alaves in a penalty shootout.
Valencia’s coach Marcelino Garcia Toral will have another opportunity to get past the semi-final stage after three unsuccessful attempts.
The other semi-final match features Leganes, who reached the semi-finals for the first time, and Sevilla.
Leganes stunned Real Madrid 2-1 at Santiago Bernabeu stadium in a two-legged quarter-final after losing the first leg 0-1.
Sevilla knocked out Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final two matches with a 5-2 aggregate victory.
Sevilla have been the victor in six out of nine games against Leganes, playing draw twice and losing one to the Madrid-based club.
