Barke Police Arrest Moneylender from Bokkapatna for Threatening Borrowers

Mangaluru: The Barke police have arrested a person in a cheating case at Bokkapatna here on February 5.

The arrested has been identified as Shaun D’Souza (36), a resident of Bokkapatna.

According to the police, Shaun was fooling people by lend money for low interest and obtaining signed blank cheque from the borrowers as a guarantee. With the blank cheque in his hand, he used to withdraw more money from their accounts. If there was a delay in repaying the amount, Shaun was threatening them of filing a case of cheque dishonour.

Shaun was a habitual offender harassing people who had borrowed money from him. Many of the borrowers have filed cases against Shaun. On February 5, the Barke police raided Shaun’s house in Bokkapatna and arrested him. Police have also seized signed blank cheques of various banks, 5 stamp papers, and Rs 7500 cash from his possession.

A case has been registered in the Barke police station.

So what is the solution? Keep the money and return the lender?

This is a big challenge for any government to see the rich are getting richer, and the poor get poorer. Why don’t the banks give out loans at low interest loans. The Grameen Bank in Bangladesh has been doing a marvelous job in micro financing very small home run businesses, that have got many out of poverty. Two months ago the Federal government in India announced a big drop in interest rates. Many borrowers flocked to the bank to return the moneys they had borrowed at a very high interest rate, and get new loans at a much lower rates.… Read more »
