BBMP Dy Mayor Ramila Umashankar passes away

Bengaluru: Deputy Mayor of BBMP, Ramila Umashankar breathed her last early on Friday morning in Bengaluru.

The JDS leader from the Kaveripura ward, who was elected as the local body deputy mayor on September 28, is survived by her husband and two children.

The news came as a shock to her party workers and colleagues on Friday morning as she was very active when they met her last time.

“She had uneasiness at about 12.50 pm and had breathing difficulties. She was rushed to Chord Road Hospital by her family members and she breathed her last on the way,” said the source close to the family.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kumaraswamy expressed shock at the demise of the deputy mayor.

He said he is deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Deputy Mayor Rameela Umashankar.

“She had actively participated with us at the Namma Metro flagging off event just yesterday,” the CM said.

“She was a dedicated social worker and committed party worker. It’s shocking to learn that she is no more with us,” he added.

“My heartfelt condolences to her family. May her soul rest in peace. Pray the Almighty gives courage and strength to the family to bear this loss,” Chief Minister said in a press statement.
