Beach Cleaning Drive by KMC Students Wing of Mluru Unit of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (Haifa)
Beach Cleaning Drive and Poster Making, Creative Writing Competition By The Students’ Wing Of Mangalore Unit Of UNESCO Chair In Bioethics (Haifa).
Mangaluru: The morning of 15th February 2020 witnessed an impressive feat performed by the members and students of KMC Mangalore and which was the cleaning drive held at Someshwar and Ullal beach located in Mangaluru, Karnataka. The event kick started with the enthusiastic and excited students who didn’t waste a single moment to collect all the garbage that had polluted once a very beautiful beach. In spite of the harsh sun and the intolerable heat the students and members of the bioethics committee helped in collecting garbage to tidy up the beach.
The group was assisted and coordinated by Dr Pratik Chatterjee, staff coordinator of students’ wing of Mangalore unit of UNESCO chair in bioethics (Haifa) and Dr Rashmi K S associate professor of department of physiology KMC Mangaluru. Their presence made this event a much more memorable and successful one
There were 60 students (from batches of 2018,2019) who enthusiastically help clean up the beach. The event was planned and executed by the ever-inspiring Dr Animesh Jain, head Mangaluru unit of UNESCO chair in bioethics, Dr B Suresh Shetty, Head, students wing of Mangaluru unit of UNESCO chair in bioethics, Dr Sheetal Ullal, secretary, students wing of Mangalore unit of UNESCO chair in bioethics.
The students together collected around 15 bags of trash which included plastic, paper, glass etc that were later on sent for recycling via the municipal authorities.
The poster making and the creative writing competition was held the day before on the 14th February 2020 whose topics were EARTH BEFORE VS AFTER and PLASTIC respectively which was held by the students wing of Mangaluru unit of UNESCO chair in bioethics. The judge for this competition was Dr Sheetal Ullal who commented, “it was a tough challenge to elect the winners”.
But since there is a game there is winner’, and the winners in- Poster making competition First place – Rashika Singhal, Second place – Drishti , Second place – Sudhanshu Jaiswal. In Creative writing competition – First place – Maryam kidwai. The winners were awarded with certificates and chocolates . Refreshments and digital certificates were awarded to everyone who participated in this event . All the students arrived back safely with morals of environmental ethics and their responsibility as human beings to clean and conserve the nature and resources that surround them and the awareness of the consequences that may prevail if action against such pollution not is taken.
