Beke Beku Nyaya Beku! DK Youth Congress Holds Candlelight Vigil Seeking Justice For Hathras Gangrape Victim, near the Mahatma Gandhi Statue in front of MCC Office building, M G Road, Mangaluru on Thursday, 1 October at 7 pm.
Mangaluru: While Women, Youth and Student organisations held protests and candlelight vigils all over India against the rape and murder of the 19 year Manisha from Valmiki community by Thakur men from Hathras, after which an attempted cover-up swiftly followed, locally here in Mangaluru, members of Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress along with DK Congress Mahila Morcha, also held a Candlelight Vigil Seeking Justice For Hathras Gangrape Victim, near the Mahatma Gandhi Statue in front of MCC Office building, M G Road, Mangaluru on Thursday, 1 October at 7 pm. A bunch of lit candles were placed at the Mahatma Gandhi statue. An effigy of Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of UP was also burnt.
The protestors were seen with banners that read, “The government that couldn’t save our daughters is useless”; “Say No To rape”; “Shame on Modi and Yogi Govt for Murdering Young women”, and many others were displayed at the vigil. President of District Youth Congress Mithun Rai addressing the gathering said, ” Yogi’s administration has tried to play down the matter, along with the UP police. The girl was admitted to a hospital in Delhi when her condition had worsened. It is saddening that the girl passed away. What is even more troublesome is that the body was brought to Hatras by the police and last rites were performed. It is learnt that the family was locked inside the house when the last rites were performed. Seems like CM Yogi Adityanath government is a “Jungle Raj” in Uttar Pradesh.
“Through this candlelight vigil, we have lit a fire and hope that this fire enlightens the minds of people to change their perception against women. Gang raped victim Manisha did not die but was murdered by the ruthless government of Yogi and her body was consigned to flames forcibly. This is a shame of the BJP government by not protecting the women, and allowing rapes and assaults on poor women by rich youth and men to continue. It is sad to note the 3-4men forcibly put Manisha in their car, injected her and raped her. They broke her back and her legs and sent her back in a rickshaw. She had no strength left to even walk, this is a ruthless act, which needs the death sentence to the accused. The rape and murder of the young girl from the lower caste in the heart of our nation UP has shocked the nation. The silence of the majority should not be tolerated. We have to voice out, and our voices should reach the PM. We need an answer, we need justice. Indian daughters are not safe, the violence against women is on the rise. We need to address this issue that is the need of the hour. We will fight till justice is served, and our battle has just started tonight and will continue until Manisha’s family gets justice” added Mithun Rai.
