Beltangady: An attempt on the life of President of Prajaprabhutva Vedike Mahesh Shetty Timarody was made in Ujire here on May 22.
It is recalled that Mahesh Shetty Timarody, a social activist was in the fore front to provide justice to the family of 17-year-old girl, Sowjanya a student of SDM PU College who was sexually abused and murdered on October 10, 2012.
On May 22, Dr Srinath Prabhu planned to finish off Timarody in a planned road accident . Two people have been injured in the accident and have now been admitted to the hospital. Timarody has escaped unhurt.
As soon as the news spread, supporters of Mahesh Shetty Timarody, assaulted Srinath. The police also reached the spot immediately and brought the situation under control.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Mahesh Shetty Timarody said, “Dr Srinath Prabhu was against us and our protest to provide justice to Sowjanya. He has harassed many people in the locality. On May 22, at around 8:30 pm when I was coming back from Mangaluru, I stopped my car in Ujire to drop the boys who had accompanied me to Mangaluru. When I got down from my vehicle, to check the mirror sensor which was not working, Dr Srinath Prabhu who was standing nearby, asked me in English, “How are you?”. I just said, I am fine, at that time Srinath got into his car and took his vehicle in reverse gear towards us. The boys who were with me jumped inside the car to save themselves and were injured. Again Srinath moved the car towards me and I too escaped by jumping inside my vehicle. His intention was to kill me. Later people gathered and tried to stop him”.
He further said, “Srinath later went to the Beltangady police station and filed a complaint against me. I too have filed a complaint against him in the same police station. People who had gathered said that, they had heard Srinath saying, “If I finish Timarody, the chapter of Sowjanya murder case will be closed”. This is a indication that Srinath wanted to kill me and see that the Sowjanya case would be closed”.
