Beltangady: A cross installed by the Christian community on behalf of St Thomas church at the Alangadi cross near Seon Ashram in Gandibagilu was found vandalized and broken on Monday morning.
Since there is no damage to the pedestal, it was certainly not an accident but a purposely act, said the residents. The incident is said to have taken place late Sunday night.
Mathias of the parish council has filed a complaint at the Beltangady police station. The police have registered a case.
The canine squad which had been called for to Kakkinje in connection with the murder of a couple was deputed to Gandibagilu also to investigate this case.
The village was known for harmony, said the villagers. The place has earned a name because of the Seon Ashram, which indiscriminate of caste, creed or class has been taking care of a large number of destitute persons, who were let down by their families.
The residents suspect that some misguided persons had done it with an intention of causing social and communal rift. The act has been condemned by leaders of all communities.
