Bendurwell Residents and Shop Owners Stage Protest against dilapidated road

Mangaluru: The residents of Bendurwell and Karavali Junction area under the leadership of Advocate Chengappa staged a protest against the pathetic condition of the road and water pipeline at Bendurwell here on October 5.

Addressing the protesters Advocate Chengappa said, “The road from Bendurwell to Karavali junction has not been concreted. Even a huge water pipe has been laid for the supply of water from the Thumbay dam. The road is in pathetic condition and the water pipe has burst several times with water entering the shops and causing great loss. Every year during the rains, shop owners in this area are facing severe problems due to water gushing into the shops creating artificial flooding.”

Advocate Chengappa further said, “On the Bendurwell – Karvali Circle road every day thousands of vehicles plying to Kerala, Mysuru, Bengaluru and other parts of the state. Even students from Puttur, B C Road, Beltangady, Vittal, Kasargod, Uppala and Talapadi come to the city through the Karavali junction by bus, car or two-wheelers. Every year this road gets into a bad condition during the rains. But the Mangaluru City Corporation so far has not taken any initiative to permanently solve the problem. The MCC has not concreted the Bendurwell – Karavali Junction stretch of road until now while most of the other roads have been concreted.Doing patchwork is not the solution for this problem.”

Chengappa also said, “There is no proper footpath and people are forced to walk on the road. Even the ambulances come to hospitals in the city passing through Karavali Junction – Bendurwell road and they too face problems. By raiding massage parlours or gambling centres for publicity will not solve the problem of Bendurwell road. We want the Mayor to take the initiative to concrete the Bendurwell – Karavali Junction. If no action will be taken in this regard we will intensify our protest.”

Auto drivers, shop owners and the residents of Bendurwell also participated in the protest.
