Beneficiaries Should Utilize Govt Funds for Good Purpose – MLA Lobo
Mangaluru: The Karnataka Minority Development Corporation held the distribution of various schemes to beneficiaries of Mangaluru South Constituency at the Town Hall here, on February 13.
Under the various schemes like self-employment, Micro Short-term loan and Arivu education loan, Rs 225.14 lakhs as loans and financial help was distributed to 801 beneficiaries.
Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza addressing the gathering said, “We feel happy when schemes reach the beneficiaries. When the elected representatives are directly involved in handing over the schemes to the beneficiaries, we come to know the importance of these schemes. In the state, we have 17% minorities. The state government led by CM Siddaramaiah has reserved many schemes which are not found in any other state. Last year, Rs 2750 crore was allocated to the minority development in the budget and priority was given to the education of the Muslim minority community who are 85%.”
Ivan D’Souza further said that every member of the minority community should get good education and the government has taken measures for the same. The government has started hostel facilities for the minority students and provides free food and accommodation. Government is also trying to integrate minority students into the main community. Through the Arivu scheme, students can select technical education after PUC. The government has already paid Rs 20 crores to the CET so that students can pursue higher studies in India and foreign countries. It is only possible through the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation for the students to pursue higher education.
In his presidential speech, MLA J R Lobo said, “When the government is helping us through various schemes, we need to think of developing ourselves and take a pledge. Every beneficiary should reflect on why the government is helping them, how to utilize the funds and what their duties are after benefiting from these schemes. We have the responsibility to spend the funds for a good purpose. If the department delays the release of funds, the beneficiaries will face problems. From this year, the government will implement a new scheme for spinsters and widows by providing Rs 1 lakh loan with 50% subsidy. The Arivu scheme will be extended to PUC students from the next academic year.”
M A Gafoor, Chairman of Minorities Development Corporation also spoke on the occasion.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, Abdul Rauf, Sabitha Misquith and others were also present.
