Bengaluru (DHNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a City resident in a case relating to uploading of several rape and porn videos on the Internet and WhatsApp.
The CBI team from New Delhi arrested Kaushik Kounar (30), of Odisha, on Thursday evening here. He is part of a gang that trapped gullible women, shot live sex videos and uploaded them on the Internet and made huge money.
The CBI team that searched Kounar’s residence here seized over 500 porn clips, stealth cameras, high-end editing software and other equipment, sources in the probe agency told Deccan Herald.
Kounar, a Class XII pass, worked as a driver with agencies which offered drivers on hire. He has excellent knowledge of video editing software and is an expert in downsizing bulky videos and uploading them on the Internet.
Kounar’s accomplices used to send him porn videos and he used to edit and upload them, the sources said.
The CBI had taken up the probe following a direction from the Supreme Court. A Hyderabad-based NGO had written a letter to Chief Justice of India H L Dattu and had also sent a pen drive with nine such clips.
The CBI teams scanned several porn websites that are operational in India and zeroed in on the suspect.
“We used sophisticated forensic software to track the origins of these video messages which went viral on social messaging platform. We traced three of the nine clips to Kounar,” an officer said.
Kounar is the third person to be arrested in the case. The CBI had registered eight FIRs and initiated preliminary enquiry after arresting Subrat Sahu, a property dealer from Bhubaneswar, on March 23.
On April 1, the CBI arrested Debashis Dev (30) in Cuttack on the charge of recording a video clip in which Sahu was said to be raping a woman.
