Bengaluru: Ex-servicemen demand resignation of Home Minister Rajnath Singh over ‘OROP’
The Sainik Welfare of India Mission (SWIM), has demanded the resignation of the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, as the government ‘humiliated’ striking ex-servicemen on August 14 by ‘police action’ near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. (OROP- One Rank One Pension)
The National President, K S Bharatiya and Vice President, William Abraham, said at the instance of the Home Minister, the Delhi Police Commissioner, B S Bassi, ordered the eviction of ex-servicemen, their wives & war widows, many of them in their 70s-80s from Jantar Mantar, when they were ‘peacefully demanding implementation of Koshyari committee report on one rank one pension’.
They said that the Koshyari committee unanimously found merit in one rank one pension and strongly recommended ‘DROP” be determined by a separate special commission.
The organization has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making a mockery of its election manifesto. They said that the BJP in the run-up to the Indian General Election in 2014 had included ‘OROP’ in its manifesto and Narendra Modi gave several assurances at different political rallies, but is backtracking on implementing ‘DROP’.
They have condemned the attitude of the government and said that their statements of ‘being with the Armed forces’ were nothing but lip sympathy. “There is a huge rally on 15-09-2015 starts from Gandhi bhavan to freedom park. All the ex-service men must present the best cow from India to the Home Minister as the gift to get his favor. He will take care of the cow like his own mother.
