Bengaluru: Addressing a media meet here, social activist and president of the Indian Christian United Forum (ICUF) T J Abraham said that organizations such as the VHP and other RSS affiliates had been spearheading its ‘Ghar Wapsi’, or homecoming, programmes in India.
What they meant by the term ‘Ghar Wapsi’ was that everyone in India had been originally Hindus by religion, and as such they should come back to that religion. Hindustan and consequently Hindu is a reference and a name given by the Aryans, who claimed themselves to be Brahmins, a race superior to the people living after and across the Indus valley. In this sense Christians living in India should also be called Hindus, according to them.
In the migratory story of India, Aryans are the actual migratory population. Those who originally existed and inhabited are the tribals and the Dravidians who constitute the present SC, ST and backward class communities. They had their own beliefs and rituals which could also be called their own religions.
But, everyone in India with different religions and beliefs were collectively called Hindus. So if Ghar Wapsi should mean going back home, Aryans should go back to Afghanistan or Iraq, their ancestral home basin and the rest get back to their original tribal and Dravidian religions within India.
Buddhists revolted against the caste system invented by the Aryans and started following a new religion. Likewise the Jains, Sikhs and Lingayats do not want to and do not really identify themselves as Hindus.
‘Now, if a person is converted back to the so-called Hinduism, are they taken into the Aryan (Brahmins) fold? Why not?’ asks the ICUF.
Historically the oldest of the Babylonian civilizations is Arab. Aryans are supposed to be descendants / children of this civilization. Therefore Ghar Wapsi will mean an Aryan becoming an Arab. So will the northern India’s original Aryan (Brahmin) population go back and become Arabs?
India has 4963 communities, 325 functioning languages and 25 different scripts. It is a diverse country and its diversity is an asset. The Indian Census 2011 mentions that in India, there are 80.5% Hindus, 13.4% Muslims and 2.3% Christians. The so-called Hindus are a conglomeration of communities and religions brought under the umbrella of Hindus by assimilation or branding by the Aryans.
Therefore, they could be called many minorities coming together under a label to be considered a majority. The Aryans are a minuscule minority sect. A genetic study on the population of India reveals that the Muslim and the Hindu population in the north stems from the same Aryan lineage. It is like brothers and sisters divided in ignorance.
The RSS vehemently speaks of and confuses the Indian population about conversion by force or allurement. Forcible conversion is something which is opposed by every civilized and well meaning society and religion. True Christianity and Christians too oppose the same.
Christians are not disturbed, perturbed or threatened by the so-called Ghar Wapsi or Re-conversions by meaningless and insignificant elements who have no contribution to society other than nuisance value.
What they claim as a great victory through their so-called Ghar Wapsi is actually taking away some unwanted Parthenium weeds and not the actual crop. True Christian believers as demonstrated in Iraq would be ready to give their lives, but not faith.
“We welcome the weeding away of such useless and unnecessary elements out of our faith. What Ghar Wapsi is achieving is what true Christians were wanting to but unable to do for long. So we would actually be happy if some more of these non-believers are removed or weeded out from our faith,” says the media release.
“Our challenge to the Sangh Parivar is – please take but you cannot take us, true Christians. If anyone makes an attempt to convert a true Christian, the person himself would get converted and surely become one of us ‘Christians’.”
“The communal genes and the anti-secular attitude of the Sangh Parivar and BJP have been exposed in letter and spirit. In the wake of the formation of the Modi government, a discourse has naturally risen in India, raising apprehensions if secularism is going to remain alive in our society,” it said.
“Though the victory of Modi and formation of his government is showcased as a victory for development, a concern has arisen in the majority of the population in the country that the secular fabric of the country could be demolished. A shameful proof and demonstration of the public belief that the BJP does not believe or tolerate secularism is evidenced from the Republic Day advertisement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting which showed the Preamble page of the Constitution without the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’, proving that the government was not ‘committed to secularism’ and there was a sinister move to remove it from the Preamble of the Constitution.”
The Republic Day advertisement exposes in letter – in black and white – and the attacks on churches in Delhi, forcing the installation of the images of goddess Saraswati in Christian schools and the Ghar Wapsi in spirit, the anti-Secular ideology of the Sangh Parivar and BJP.
In these circumstances, answers to the following relevant questions are called for.
1) Will the Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs be asked to renounce their religion / faiths and join the Aryans?
2) Will the original Aryan (Brahmin) population of northern India go back and become Arabs?
3) Will those re-converted to the so-called Hinduism be taken into the Aryan (Brahmins) fold?
4) First of all, will these Aryans (Brahmins) accept / allow the tribals, SCs and STs to enter their homes?
The ICUF has also condemned the increase of attacks on churches in India after the BJP government came to power at the Centre.
It says it welcomes the ‘Ghar Wapsi’ by way of ‘taking away unwanted weeds of non-believers which are the Parthenium weeds from our community by the Sangh Parivar’.
It also foresees the downfall of the BJP hereon and a concerted effort on ICUF’s part to ensure the restoration of secular ethos in the country.
