Bengaluru: Latest Victim of ATM Card Trickery is None Other Than State Police Chief Himself!

Bengaluru: If this had happened to a man on the street, it was a different matter. But the latest victim of ATM card trickery by way of cleverly obtaining passwords and other details from gullible persons is the director general and inspector general police of the state, Om Prakash, himself.

It may appear hard to believe. Nevertheless, just because the affected person happened to be the topcop of the state, his subordinates lost no time in tracking down the culprits within a fairly reasonable period.

On April 21 this year, the officer received phone calls from persons claiming to be ICICI Bank staff and asked for the PIN of his credit card. Without suspicion, he revealed it over phone. Within minutes, he got a message of a debit of Rs 10,000 from his account.

He filed a complaint to the cyber-cell the same evening. The cyber cops tracked down the mobile numbers and online transactions. The probe led them to Delhi, from where the two culprits, Deep Kumar and his friend Ashraf Ali were arrested.

They are said to have a history of online frauds committed in Chennai and Gujarat as well. When enquired about it the DGP said that it would have been all right if he had lost Rs 10,000. But many citizens all over the country get cheated every day. The public should beware of this activity and take precautions, he said.

Surprise surprise! It happened to Head of the law enforcement division after he gave his pin number over phone to a stranger pretending himself as an employee of the bank. With all his experience and dealings with similar cases, it is rather stupid for anybody, let alone the Head of the police department, to provide pin number over phone even if asked by the bank employees. He deserved to lose the money withdrawn but did not by virtue of his position and the resources he has.

This guy is a topcop ? WOW! Who gives pin number over the phone? There are two good things coming out of this story:
– The bad guys were caught immediately because police head himself was cheated. If it was some ordinary raama-dhooma, it wouldn’t have happened for Rs.10,000!!
– Shows the competency levels of our top officers who are supposed to keep us safe. This guy clearly has no idea on how to handle private, confidential things.

wow, seriously this guy is the top cop? please, he needs to get on a tread mill or something, if he want to chase criminals. But on a serious note, he is unfit to hold that office if he does not understand how the new crimes are done these days.
