Bengaluru (DHNS): The Lokayukta police probing accusations of corruption in the anti-graft ombudsman has identified the person who blackmailed officials using the name Krishna Rao.

The investigation has also revealed his links with Syed Riyaz, Joint Commissioner (PRO), in the Lokayukta office.

Barely three days after the probe was initiated, Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao on Monday evening issued orders to stop the investigation immediately. He also stated that Upalokayukta Justice Subhash Adi’s order for investigation stands superseded.

There was curious turn of events at the Lokayukta office on Monday. First, Justice Adi directed the Lokayukta police to continue the probe citing his June 23 order.

The Lokayukta police immediately swung into action and scanned through the CCTV footages from a couple of star hotels in the City. The sources said that the Lokayukta police have established the real identity of the person who calls himself Krishna Rao and claims to be Justice Rao’s secretary.

The probe has not only identified the impersonater, but also three of his agents. The call record details and other circumstantial evidence proved the link, sources said.

“Some officials had come to the Lokayukta office with specific details about Krishna Rao. By afternoon it was evident that more than one person was using this name. By evening, both the persons who used this name were identified,” sources said. As the Lokayukta police were making arrangements to show the CCTV footages to officials who were blackmailed by Krishna Rao, Justice Rao suddenly red-flagged the investigation.

“The Lokayukta has written to the State government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by an officer not below the rank of an ADGP. He has recommended that the SIT may probe into all such complaints about corruption in the institution,” a senior official said.

Justice Adi said he is yet to receive the official order superseding his order for probe. “I have not received the order yet. I will read it tomorrow (Tuesday) and take further action,” he said.
